The occasion took place within the framework of this year’s conference aimed at promoting lychee products in Bac Giang province. Indeed, a fleet of container trucks carrying large quantities of lychees are expected to be shipped to highly lucrative markets such as the United States, Thailand, and Japan, in addition to being consumed within the domestic market through innovative retail distribution systems operating nationwide.

The attendance of PM Phuc at the event displayed the State’s keen interest in lychee growers, in particular farmers, especially amid the ongoing impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic affecting all aspects of socio-economic life, including the lychee consumption market.

At present, Bac Giang province is home to approximately 50,000 hectares of lychee growing area. Once they ripen, export promotion and consumption of lychee can be viewed as a highly important part of the locality’s economy, especially amid the COVID-19 epidemic negatively affecting local export activities.

During this year’s lychee season, Bac Giang province is poised to harvest roughly 160,000 tonnes of the fruit, half of which will be exported to traditional markets such as China.

As a way of boosting business, the province is seeking to export lychee to new markets that have a high economic efficiency, such as the US, the EU, and the Republic of Korea. This also marks the first year that the country’s fresh lychee products have received approval to enter the Japanese market.
